A new series of workshops in Ireland

Workship encompasses all the things we love; travel, learning, photography, friendship, craftsmanship, conversation and food.

W O R K S H I P #02

MARCH 8th-11th 2024

At the helm of the workshop will be photographer and writer Cliodhna Prendergast, chef and creator Katie Sanderson and portrait and documentary photographer Doreen Kilfeather.

This will be a slower-paced retreat where people have time to take everything in. Coming together as a small group is as important to us as the art of food and photography so expect a full but not too pressing schedule, fantastic food, fireside chats, soft rain on the skin and salt in your hair. You can engage fully in all aspects of the workshop or stand back to observe and absorb as you wish.

“if you want to fill your heart and meet like-minded souls who are creative and have a love for the beautiful Connemara landscape - book yourself a place on Workship immediately! I had the most magical few days attending the first workshop. The food will blow your mind, the warmth of the speakers and fellow attendees is truly special, and the setting in Roundstone and Within the Village is breathtaking. I left with a full heart and some new friends - what more could you ask for?” Aoife O’Sullivan

Having run the very successful Lens and Larder workshops with her business partner Imen McDonnell; which were interrupted by covid, Cliodhna Prendergast has decided to continue the offering through Workship, concentrating on photography but with other crafts to be added later in the series. Workship allows space for reflection, discovery and fun.

Cliodhna, Katie and Doreen will bring you on a curated 3 night, 2 day trip into the heart of Connemara, a beautifully wild and rugged area on Ireland’s Atlantic coast to explore place, people, produce, sea and land while learning and developing your photography skills.

Our retreat is also about immersing yourself in the warm welcoming culture of Connemara, ensuring an intimate experience that extends beyond the art of photography while you explore the spirit of this place and discover your own and other’s creativity. This is a perfect retreat for those interested in experiential travel and connecting with a place and its community while exploring photography in a nurturing environment.

While Cliodhna will gently guide participants in editorial or story-led photography, Doreen Kilfeather will share her incredible skill in portraiture and Katie will bring her fabulous talents to the table with a bounty of local and seasonal Irish ingredients to cook. We will be on location with a live shoot of portraits and food and discuss as we work.

“The Workship weekend was an incredibly inspiring weekend for me as someone who adores creativity and connection with creative people. The connection and creativity I experienced was echoed throughout the weekend in every single detail, from the food which was chosen and prepared with such thought and care, the accommodation which was so inviting and welcoming, to the activities and workshops which were filled with incredible generosity of spirit and kindness in sharing knowledge and learning when it came to food, photography and most importantly life experiences. This Workship experience is something that has shaped my creative vision and has allowed me to form friendships that I hope to continue both online and offline. Workship was an incredibly wholesome and heartwarming experience and I would love to do it all over again.” Gillian Horgan

Our base for this workshop will be in the new and beautifully curated ‘Within the Village’ suites. A special place renovated by craftspeople and brought to life by local artists and makers in the heart of the fishing village of Roundstone, Connemara on the west coast of Ireland.

The retreat will open on Friday afternoon when you arrive and settle in followed by welcome cocktails and dinner by Katie Sanderson who pours her heart into her pots to nourish participants. We will swim in the sea (if you wish!), talk and listen, laugh and learn.

Spring is a natural time for growth and opening and this is what we strive to achieve at Workship #02. The intention is to open your creativity and provide skills and inspiration for the year ahead.

It will be a nurturing space for participants of all levels to discuss photography and learn through others’ experiences.

  • Doreen Kilfeather

    Photographer

@dkilfeather is a Dublin-based photographer with a focus on portraiture and documentary photography. Her portraits contain a quiet intimacy and connection. Entering into other people's worlds and observing how they occupy their own spaces is an elemental part of her work. With a strong understanding of light and a keen eye for detail, colour, and texture, her pictures sit at the intersection of everyday life and the cinematic. Working across fashion editorial and commercial projects her work has been featured in publications such as Irish Tatler, Image, Cara magazine, The Gloss and Boys by Girls. Doreen is represented by Not Another INTL

  • Katie Sanderson

    Cook and Creator

@katiejsanderson relocated to the west coast 3 years ago, a place she has spent her summers since she was wee. A majestic coming home that has brought vast openness and much light.
Katie enjoys nourishing people through events and food.
In the past that's been through dinners held in rainforests, falling down Georgian buildings or a Connemara boat shed (the renowned Dillisk pop-up). She cooked twice during the making of Teac Damsa's shows (Irish dance company) which will forever be a personal highlight.  She is the founder of the Chilli oil company White Mausu which has a veritable cult following. But is probably happiest cooking mackerel caught a few hours ago on a BBQ, barefoot, salty hair with some fresh spuds & greens from her garden.

  • Cliodhna Prendergast

    Photographer + Writer
